About The Cluster
The Penderi Cluster is one of five community network areas in Swansea. There are five practices which operate in the Penderi cluster area
There are 37,823 individuals registered to practices belonging to the Penderi Cluster Network. The population of Penderi exhibits a range of health and wellbeing issues and covers the most deprived area in Swansea, with nearly 50% of cluster network patients living in the 20% most deprived areas.
Penderi has a large number of patients who are unemployed and/or single parents. There are high levels of substance misuse and high levels of asylum seekers and refugees housed within the catchment area, necessitating high usage of Language Line. There are high levels of mental health issues and teenage pregnancies. Penderi is the joint highest network for A and E attendances in Swansea and the second-highest network for COPD emergency admissions in Swansea. The uptake rates for screening services are below the Welsh average.
Within ABMU HB Penderi is ranked 11 out of 12 for the highest smoking prevalence. 25.2% of the Penderi population over the age of 15 are smokers. Penderi has the third-highest incidence of lung cancer across the ABMU HB area clusters. (86.6 per 100,000 population).
With regard to flu vaccines: 28.7% of children aged 2-3 have the vaccine (ABMU average is 33.6%), 62% of patients aged 65 and over have the flu vaccine (ABMU average is 63.4%), 40% of patients under 65 take up the flu vaccine (ABMU average is 43.4%).

Develop a local enhanced service for women and children housed in refuges; recognition that this is an equally vulnerable group as asylum seekers or homeless patients.
