What is the Accessible Information Standard (AIS)?

The Accessible Information Standard (AIS) ensures that patients receive information they can understand and any support they need to communicate effectively.

Who AIS helps 👥

The Accessible Information Standard supports people who are:

  • Deaf or hard of hearing
  • Blind or partially sighted
  • Deafblind
  • Living with dementia or other communication needs
  • Using a different first language

What we will do ✅

We follow five key steps to make sure your needs are met:

  • Ask if you have any communication or information needs
  • Record your needs clearly in your medical record
  • Alert staff so everyone involved in your care is aware
  • Share information with other services when needed (with your consent)
  • Act to meet your identified needs

Information formats and support 📄

We can provide information in a range of formats, including large print, Easy Read, Braille, email, or by phone.

Interpreters can also be arranged where required.
